I was a little skeptical when I received them because they looked like flimsy plastic. Compared to the other peelers I've had in the past, they don't feel as substantial. However, when I went to use them, they were sharp and peeled the veggies perfectly! I really wanted a serrated one to make veggie "pasta" and since my only peeler is dull and hard to use, I figured getting this set wouldn't break the bank. The regular peeler works great, they are pretty thin, not paper thin though, shavings (still think the ceramic peeler was the best in terms of creating paper thin savings but that peeler breaks after some time). The serrated peeler peeled the zucchinis and carrots with no problems. I had perfectly shaped "pasta" and my kid ate everything up and it comes with a cover. Win win for everyone :). I hope these peelers last me for many happy cooking years :). I look forward to peeling veggies again!
Liked the peeler very much..very sharp blade..slices thru skin like hot knife on butter. Havent used the other blades yet, sure they will be fine. The only concern I have is the handles are a lightweight plastic, hope they hold up.
If you have ever watched a cooking show and marveled at how rapidly the sous-chefs peel produce, this little tool is the answer. Having grown up with the classic metal peeler, and used one for decades as an adult, I used to watch these shows and think the speed was a trick of the trade. In fact it is all about tools of the trade, not tricks.
We had standard OXO peeler that worked fine, but this trio caught my eye when I was looking for a julienne peeler. I decided to get it, and I was AMAZED when I peeled my first potato. The scalpel blade peeler is so sharp that peeling anything is a breeze. I used to dread peeling a bag of potatoes, but now it is actually kind of fun. I am kind of disappointed that I wasted so long with a crappy peeler!
Omg I can make carrot shavings for my salads in 30 seconds with minimal things to wash. Pieces are very sharp, simple to use. Comes with snap covers to protect blades. Amazing.
Finally! I bought the one satisfied me. 17 years ago I got a german peeler. It had been the best until was broken more than a year ago. Since then I got 8 different of a kind (metal, ceramic, plastic) and shape no one easy going ( all of them given away ). This peeler is 9th ant I'll stay with it. Just buy and save your time on peeling and be happy!
I would recommend to friends and family. Its my go-to cutting utensils for fruits, salad prep and veggie slicing. It makes cooking in the kitchen a pleasure. ONly word of warning--always clean and dry immediately after use to preserve it longer. otherwise it can rust easily.
These are sharp and precise. Peeling fruits and vegetables was always a chore, but I can't believe how much easier it is with tools that actually do their job. So far I've only used the scalpel and serrated blades, but I imagine the julienne peeler is just as effective. The only potential downside I've found is that dried food is difficult to clean off the serrated blade, but that can be avoided by washing it immediately.
I saw a friend use one and discovered the set online. It cuts so thin that you can make potatoe chips just as thin as at the grocery store. I always despised having to skin or shave veggies in the past, this made it so easy that I could just kick myself for not knowing of them sooner.
I was looking for a peeler to cut the skin from butternut squash, which can be a little difficult and awkward to do. This peeler did the trick! I am no longer hesitant to buy the squash because it's now so easy to peel it!
I thought (at first) that they seemed somewhat cheaply made because of the plastic handles. Boy...was I ever wrong! The wide plastic handles are easier to hold and manipulate than a standard thin metal one. The plastic is extremely light and great for folks with arthritic hands (like me).
Great buy, though I was going to take a garde manger class and would need it, but wound up using it at home instead. Throw away your old peelers, you won't want to use them after you get these! The flat peeler takes wonderfully thin strips off carrots, potatoes, apples, pears, even tomatoes! The serated one easily peels a lemon, orange or lime with not pith for zest, or to add to tea, or infust pastry cream (or anything). There is even one that will julliene for you, cute little strips of whatever you want from carrots, to potates to apples. So worth it, just watch your fingers, they are sharp!
